Our Vision, Mission, Purpose, Goal:
Building Strong Families

Our vision for the Pointers On Parenting Family Support Group is in conjunction with the vision of MHP; to strengthen family units; to make stronger communities by integrating the fathers, father figures, and grandparents, ‘the family’ in the process. Our mission is to be an integral part of the wrap around network of services provided by MHP; committed to strengthening the family unit by equipping all members with educational tools for adapting to new familial roles. Our purpose is in our commitment to provide pregnant and parenting teens with a comprehensive program. We are also committed to integrating parenting young fathers and father figures and maternal and paternal grandparents in the process by offering an on-going Family Support Group. Our goal is to equip the support group participants with effective communication tools, setting boundaries, and how to embrace the new family dynamics. Additional topics includes exploring how to properly care for baby, examining how to nurture healthy relationships and how to cope with the unexpected. In addition, the support group provides the opportunity for individuals to meet others that are facing similarities all while meal sharing and receiving complimentary gifts. Unlike other parenting classes and groups, the Pointers On Parenting Family Support Group is free; there is no cost to participate. We appreciate the opportunity to be a part of your life; a part of your family. We meet in rotating monthly cycles per campus, one night a week, from 6:00 pm-7:30 pm, during the school year and take family field trips during the summer months. Please refer to the schedule below:

The Itinerary
In an effort to meet the individual needs of the support group participants, we tailor each session by the needs of the group. We have networked with other Social Service Agencies to assist us in their area of specialty to speak on various topics and to bring their service to the group. This allows the participants the opportunity to be introduced to other organizations and capitalize on their resources and services.
The Format
At each session, we gather to eat and then we divide into two separate groups; the fathers/father figures in one group, the grandparents in another group, the mothers joining with either of the groups. Sessions are led by professionals from the community.
